First Actor Arrives for The Big Battle Scene in Cáceres

The first actor has arrived for the Big Battle Scene in Cáceres, even though filming doesn’t start for ten days, and it’s not who you think! As we noted yesterday, load in for the production started this weekend, but the major hotel reservations for the cast and crew don’t begin until next Monday…. And yet, as Los Siete Reinos reports, one of the actors is already in town.

Coincidence? Or… is he taking part in the big battle and needs extra horse rehearsal?

We don’t know, but the spoiler of who is is is below. Turn back now if you don’t want to know!

Most other days I write a little spoiler song
And hope you all sing along.
Sadly, today is not most other days.

Ok, so spoilers and stuff. You know maybe this is a really appropriate one, now that I think about it, because the actor advertising his presence is:

James Faulkner, who plays Randyll Tarly, Sam’s xenophobic, misogynistic, and bigoted against wildings father, who many last year compared to… well you know.

Now, note the hashtag is DaVicni’s Demons, which might lead some to say he’s actually there filming something else. And we’d buy that excuse….except DaVinci’s Demons was canceled at the end of the 2015 season. So.

So why is he there? Book readers know that the entire scene where Sam goes home has not happened in the books, instead we meet Randyll on the road, when he passes Brienne and Pod on their travels on the King’s Road. It’s clear at the time he’s looking for a fight, perhaps he’s found it in this filming scene. Remember one of the major spoilers out of that reddit thread suggested that Cersei would send the Lannister troops to take down the Tyrells. The Tarlys are Tyrell bannermen. With all her family gone, the elder Tarly might even be the head of whatever army Olenna has possession of when Jaime and his army of redcoats…well, red plated army anyway, come calling.
