How do you know when you’ve broken through the fabric to invade every single last corner of the pop culture space? When cultural mainstay Saturday Night Live parodies your climactic scene in their episode that week.
Last night SNL did indeed restage the resurrection of Jon Snow for all and sundry who might have somehow missed it the first time…with a few slight alterations, of course.
Brie Larson was the week’s guest star–she and Cecily Strong are the random “Greek chorus” of women who have no business being there–a fun way around the lack of female characters in the scene.
“Let’s wake him up and pop him on a horse and go fight someone or something!”
“Because we only get 10 hours a year, people, and we spent two in this room.”
The best part is when Jon Snow (Pete Davidson) finally wakes up and what he really wants….is to go see Bran. BOOOORING! (Actually Bran isn’t boring this season, but I’ve heard so many show only fans complain about how dull his storyline is.)
Next up, Epic Rap Battles in history imagines how a fight between Old School OG Fantasy writer J.R.R. Tolkien would go when matched up against New School and Initial Imitator George R.R. Martin.
Martin: “You Hobbit Hole Heroes can’t handle my throne!”
Tolkien: “You’re a pirate, you even stole my R.R.!”
Who won? Personally I’ve leaning towards Tolkien….
And finally, this isn’t exactly humor, but it’s funny to me. In merchandising, they now make Game of Thrones embossing rolling pins. Because what Westeros needs now is sugar cookies. (Well, I’ll bet Jon Snow is hungry and probably needs to put on a little weight after all that resurrecting, so yeah. Sure.)
Perfect for Mother’s Day…or not.
