There are times when Game of Thrones feels like it has a cast of thousands. Despite the producers’ insistence that the world is shrinking back down in the back half of the series, clearly we still have far too many characters to keep track of. After all, some of them (like Sam and Gilly) we didn’t get around to until three episodes in to Season 6.
With so many characters, is it a wonder that we sometimes forget about some of them? But then, it only makes it a bigger surprise when they make a dramatic return.

Tonight saw the dramatic return of a character we haven’t seen since Season 3: the littlest Stark, Rickon, who was last seen heading for the Umbers with his wildling protector Osha. It’s funny that the show made a huge deal about bringing Bran back after he sat out a whole season, but you know, Rickon sat out two, and no one even mentioned he was on his way back. How many people figured he would be the Umbers’ gift to Ramsay?
Heck, did Ramsay figure this would be the Umbers’ gift to Ramsay? And yet here he is!

Poor Rickon. Like old-school Sansa, he seems to have no idea there is a game being played around him. And that he’s a piece to be used on the board. Good morning, Rickon Stark. Congrats on making it this far.
It’s just too bad Shaggydog didn’t make it to see Season 6 with you.
Sorry, animal lovers. It’s a tough road for the direwolves. Only Ghost, Nymeria, and Summer still survive.
