With one day left until the season 7 premiere (!!!), we’re still catching up with the cast’s red blue carpet interviews. In an article at Insider, Kim Renfro squeezed some juicy bits out of the cast, who are clearly just as excited about season 7 as we all are.
In particular, Isaac Hempstead Wright (Bran), shared something that is sure to send an alert through your brain:
“Bran is the Three-Eyed Raven now…He’s now the sworn enemy of the Night King — which is slightly frightening…He’s also got this wealth of important information that really needs to get to the right people, and so by the start of season seven, Bran is in many ways a very different character.”
What could this mean for the other members of the Stark family? If Bran is able to survive the entire series, will head back North to live out life as a tree? So many questions! Read the full interview with Isaac here.
Meanwhile, Sophie Turner was a little more cryptic on Sansa’s journey:
“The Sansa that I knew in season one is unrecognizable to me now, because she’s developed so much…It’s really rewarding to be able to play a character like that and delve so deep into her. She has changed measurably, it’s really a beautiful transformation.”
In the full interview, she also went on to talk about her relationship with Maisie Williams (Arya), although stopped short of saying whether they’d meet in season 7; damn those spoiler police!
One of the most tantalizing tidbits of the truthful tell-all tale from terrific Targaryen expert Conleth Hill hints that Varys will delve into the past this season:
“He loved [The Targaryens’] architecture, he loved their way of governing. You will get some insight into his experiences with the Mad King, maybe. And so you’ll see that maybe he wasn’t as fond of that particular monarch as he is of [Daenerys].”
Ooooo! No one tells a story like Varys, and I can’t wait to see him and Tyrion delve into the backstories of their new Queen’s father. Hill talked more about fans’ reactions to his hair in the full interview.
But why stop there? The hints keep coming! Jacob Anderson suggests that either Grey Worm or Missandei are in dire trouble, and that they might not both make it out of this season alive:
“…No one can be happy in this show, can they? It’s just not allowed…So yeah I worry for them — those kids. Those crazy kids.”
Lastly from this bunch, Richard Dormer (Beric Dondarrion) hints at even more action than ever before:
“There’s going to be a lot of fighting…First thing I did [when I got the script] was make a huge pot of coffee…I made myself nice and comfortable in my dining room, and I sat down for a few hours and just began reading and trying to visualize it. I was very excited.”
Meanwhile, at Entertainment Weekly, James Hibberd highlights the playful banter between Kristofer Hivju (Tormund Giantsbane) and Gwendoline Christie (Brienne of Tarth).
“Tormund definitely thinks he has a shot [with Brienne],” says Hivju. “It’s the way the Wildlings are. The women are so strong. They’re equals. They all fight. Like with Ygritte, she has to fight as well as everybody else. When a Wildling is rejected that means ‘thumbs up.'”
“That relationship keeps evolving,” retorts Christie.
David Benioff, showrunner and co-creator, hints at how Brienne’s and Tormund’s relationship was not scripted into the show. He teases further:
“It’s not something you could ever write. It’s just this moment where this guy is creeping out on her and he smiles in a way that makes her very uncomfortable and she just looks away. I saw it 150 times and every time it made me laugh; it’s purely the two of them. It inspires us because we need to kill one of them now because there can’t be a happy ending or any romantic connection on the show…But we’re not going to tell you which one.”
Wait, what?! He has to be joking! Please tell me he’s joking!!! Don’t do this to me, Benioff! He’s right about Christie, in particular, however. I just love the playfulness that she always exudes off screen with her colleagues – Remember when she and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau interviewed each other?
So what do you think, folks? Should we be worried for Brienne, Tormund, Grey Worm, Missandei, or perhaps all of our characters? Does love exist truly exist in Westeros? Can it? Better yet… who’s excited for season 7?!?!?!?!?!?!
