It’s been a whirlwind for Croatia this year when it comes to Game of Thrones– from off the table, to back into the game, to fully confirmed with cast sightings at dizzying speed. When Embassy Films put out a mysterious casting call for extras at the end of November, it was unclear whether it was GoT, but fans were hopeful, given how important the country has been in shaping the look of King’s Landing. Dubrovnik’s Old Town is the capital of Westeros (though Spain is helping out this year as well), and now the queen has returned.
The Dubrovnik Times reports filming will take place in the city for three days, and spotted Lena Headey, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, and Hafthor Bjornsson arriving at the location to start shooting scenes for the new season.

N1 has acquired a beautiful batch of photos from today’s filming on the city’s fortress walls, showing Headey and Coster-Waldau, along with a Thrones director. We’re also treated to a great view of the new armor for Cersei’s Kingsguard, worn by a couple of those aforementioned extras.
Coster-Waldau appears to be taking aim at the camera:
Here we see director Jeremy Podeswa talking with Headey. Podeswa is directing the premiere and the finale of season 7. We don’t know which episode this is from, but if I had to guess, I’d put money on the premiere. And is that the back of the Mountain’s head I spy?
Bjornsson was certainly on set:
The Kingsguard, under their new queen, have updated armor to match her severe black and silver designs. The emblem on the breastplate is similar to Cersei’s crown. I love this look, it’s so striking!
We get a better look at the location itself in these last photos. We can see why they returned to Dubrovnik- the city walls with the sea view are very hard to recreate elsewhere.

Here’s hoping there’s more over the next few days- Croatia has always been very good for fans, and wonderful for Game of Thrones! As for the scene being filmed, season 6 ended with Jaime appearing apprehensive about Cersei’s bold move in claiming the throne for herself. If this scene is from the premiere, I don’t imagine this is a loving follow-up discussion.
