Game of Thrones Leaves Golden Globes Empty Handed

Game of Thrones was only nominated for one Golden Globe last night, and, unsurprisingly, it didn’t win. Losing out to newcomer Mr. Robot, Game of Thrones left empty handed. It wasn’t a great night for the actors associated with the show, as Pedro Pascal’s Narcos was also shut out. Tobias Menzies, known to fans as the incompetent Edmure Tully, was nominated for his double role of Frank Randall and Jack Randall in Outlander. He also lost to Mr. Robot, as Christian Slater took home the statue for Best Supporting Actor.

Perhaps aware of the Golden Globes’ opinion of themselves as the high end Emmys, and suspecting that they would be snubbed due to their recording breaking award haul back in the fall, very few of the Game of Thrones cast showed for the festivities. Amanda Peet was photographed on the red carpet, suggesting that Benioff and Weiss were in attendance, but they did not bother with those formalities. From the cast, only Emilia Clarke and Natalie Dormer were seen on the carpet.

Clarke showed up in an oddly gothy Valintino, and unfortunately unflattering around the neckline. The Mother of Dragons, but evil?

Dormer, who has been everywhere for the last six weeks it seems, also came in something that look like it came from The Mother of Dragons fashion line.

Interestingly enough, one actor who should have shown up was Kit Harington. As fans may remember, usually when a major lead is killed off, they have a tendency to turn up at the awards shows following that season, in order to ride the final wave of publicity. Pedro Pascal showed up to everything post Season 4, for example. Richard Madden was everywhere post Season 3. And of course, Sean Bean showed up to everything post Season 1. One would think if the show was telling the truth about Jon Snow’s demise that Kit Harington, who has been struggling to make a film career take off, would be taking advantage of putting his face in front of all the right people one last time….

Except of course, we know there are questions that he doesn’t really want people asking if he did.
