Game of Thrones v The Night Manager at National Television Awards 2017

It’s a new year, and a new round of the 2016 awards season, and the National Television Awards are getting underway across the pond. It’s Game of Thrones versus Tom Hiddleston in The Night Manager as voting opens in the UK for the television centered awards program.

As is usual for the UK based program, Game of Thrones is the only US based show to make the list for Best Drama. (It is after all, supposed to be the best of their nation.) It goes up against BBC’s The Night Manager, which was a monster hit over there, though did not actually do so well over here in the US, despite starring Tom Hiddleston, one half of the short-lived Hiddleswift couple (though personally I preferred the nickname SWOKI.)

Other competition includes the never seems to go away BBC show Casualty, ITV’s Cold Feet as well as Happy Valley, which has the bizarre sight of Neville Longbottom as a serial killer.

Voting for the program opened this morning and will run until 12 noon on Wednesday, January 25, 2017. (The awards program itself airs that evening.)

Perhaps the voting British public can make up for what is sure to be a snubbing at the Golden Globes this coming weekend for the program. But like at the Golden Globes, Game of Thrones is only nominated for Best Drama. No cast members are nominated for Supporting Actor or Actress. (Due to rule sof how long characters must be on screen, no one in the Game of Thrones cast ever seems to be eligible beyond the Supporting category.)

This is clearly a travesty. We can all agree that if Kit Harington were nominated, he and his hair would surely crush all comers. Except perhaps Aidan Turner, whose hair in Poldark is the only real competition he would face. Perhaps they can  have a hair off? A girl can dream.
