See what happened in King’s Landing (Video)

Last season, book-readers waiting with baited breath for the show to get to Cersei Lannister’s horrific “Walk of Shame,” where she allows herself to be debased by the High Sparrow in order to get out of jail and back to the Red Keep and her son. Ever since, we’ve been waiting to see the Faith put her on trial for her crimes.

Since the books have not reached this point, we were as surprised as anyone when Tommen outlawed trial by combat, meaning that Cersei’s trial would be a more Law & Order-type affair rather than the Westeros Wrestling Federation’s Trial By Combat Pay-Per View. But did the outcome of our crime procedural make up for the death of the dream of CLEGANBOWL?

SPOILERS AHEAD!

Good morning, Worm your honor
The crown will plainly show
The prisoner who now stands before you
Was caught red-handed showing spoilers
Showing spoilers of an almost major nature
This will not do

Now there’s only one King’s Landing plot point from the books left for the show to hit: the epilogue from A Dance with Dragons. In it, a white raven  from the Citadel arrives in the city, meaning that winter has come. When Kevan goes to see Pycelle to talk about it, he finds the Grand Maester stabbed to death by Varys’ little birds, and then Varys shoots him with a crossbow. With Varys elsewhere on the show, we were all wondering if Kevan and Pycelle would be taken out this evening by Qyburn on Cersei’s orders. (Remember that Qyburn took up oversight of Varys’ little birds back in “Oathbreaker.”)

But we didn’t know she’s take them all down. All of them. From Pycelle to Kevan. to Margaery to Loras to Mace to Lancel to the High Sparrow. All in one blow. She had the little birds stab Pycelle, she had them take out Lancel so he couldn’t stop them. And then she left everyone waiting for her in the Sept of Baelor, while the candle in the wildfire burned down.

It was glorious.

All of them. Except Tommen. She kept him safe and home while she went downstairs and tortured Septa Unella to death.

Except Tommen couldn’t live without Margaery….or knowing what his mother had done.

And that was the end of most of the people who were alive in King’s Landing.
