Every December brings a fresh pile of accolades for Game of Thrones as year-end lists start pouring in, and the first honor is here! According to EW, Twitter has shared their stats for 2017, reporting on users’ activity, and Game of Thrones came out on top as the most tweeted TV show in the U.S. for the year.
EW reports:
Rounding out the year’s 10 most-tweeted works for television were — beginning with the second most tweeted — Stranger Things, Big Brother, 13 Reasons Why, Saturday Night Live, The Walking Dead, Grey’s Anatomy, The Voice, Supernatural, and Pretty Little Liars. For streaming-only fare in America, the most tweeted was Stranger Things, followed by 13 Reasons Why, Orange Is the New Black, House of Cards, Sense8, Narcos, The Get Down, The Handmaid’s Tale, Bojack Horseman, and Daredevil.
It’s no surprise that Game of Thrones is number one in this category with fans livetweeting the show passionately every week and taking part in roleplaying communities like #FakeWesteros. For many, the shared fan experience is as important and fulfilling as the show itself, if not more.
As 2017 wraps up, we can look forward to more year-end lists. Season 7 was a controversial year in some ways, with many viewers declaring it the best ever while others felt Game of Thrones had stumbled and put out a weaker season. Which perspective will the critics’ final reviews reflect? We’ll see, soon enough!
