See What The Tyrells Are Plotting (Video)

Playing “the great game” as Tyrion Lannister calls it, is something that every last person in King’s Landing does. it’s like breathing–most of them don’t even think about it, it comes so naturally. Cersei may be a terrible decision maker when it comes to her moves, but that doesn’t mean she isn’t playing her heart out. The Tyrells on the other hand, are not only skilled players of the game, but they’ve all been tutored under the master–Grandmother Olenna.

We’ve been wondering about Margaery and exactly what it is she’s been plotting with this whole “Let the High Sparrow win” stuff that happened last week. Did she really convert? Is she just taking Loras advice is the most twisted manner imaginable? Moreover, what is Margaery going to *do* about Grandmother Olenna? She was clearly stunned last week when that army came marching in, and Olenna carried along side it. She had obviously thought that aligning with the High Sparrow and giving the man what he wanted–Tommen–in order to let him think he had won was going to be effective in cutting out Cersei from power. She hadn’t counted on accidentally humiliating her father and grandmother in the public square along with it.

Just as importantly, how is Olenna going to take being cut out of the power structure? This is a woman who spent the last twenty years grooming Margaery to become “The Queen” in order to have a major string tied to the monarchy and the ruling family. Like Varys, she is a spider, and she wouldn’t take well to finding that thread cut.

We knew Olenna would go marching in to see Margaery just as soon as the Queen was back in her chambers. What we didn’t expect was this.

I was joking about Hail Hydra, but Margaery is in fact passing a note in that photo.

And it’s the flower of House Martell (or what’s left of it in Dorne–Ellaria and The Sand Snakes.) It looks like House Tyrell has a new direction to turn.
