HBO and Cinemax now available through Amazon Prime

Lately, more cable TV lovers have been rejecting the over-priced bundles offered by giant cable and satellite companies in favor of a la carte online streaming of their favorite channels. Online retailer Amazon has been at the forefront of the cord-cutting movement for years, offering premium channels like Starz and Showtime, along with its own original programming, through its Amazon Channels platform.

Up until now, HBO and Cinemax were not among those offerings. But cord cutters can rejoice. According to Cinema Blend, both channels, complete with all their past and present programming catalogs, will now be available to Amazon Prime members.

Before you sign up for a lifetime subscription, there’s a catch. First you must have an Amazon Prime membership, which costs anywhere from $100 to $132 dollars depending on how you choose to pay. After that, access to HBO will cost you an additional $14.99 per month. (That’s the same price as an HBO Now account.) Cinemax access will only set you back $9.99 per month.

And if you’re screaming that’s too much to pay just to watch Game of Thrones and Westworld, consider that a Prime membership gives you access to much more than just streaming movies and TV shows. Free two-day shipping, access to free books and music, and early access to Amazon sales are among the many extra benefits that come with a Prime membership. If HBO was the last thing keeping you tethered to your cable or satellite service, you could be saving much more than you are spending.
