Game of Thrones Soars Again, Grabbing Over 9 Million Viewers with “Stormborn”

Theon and Yara admiring this week’s ratings

Last week, Game of Thrones annihilated their ratings record with the season premiere “Dragonstone”, bringing in over ten million viewers. The show didn’t quite top that with this week’s second episode, but it wasn’t far off, with GoT still beating all their previous season’s record numbers. According to Zap2It, a staggering 9.27 million viewers tuned in to “Stormborn”, seeing the results of Daenerys’ landing on Dragonstone, complete with an explosive sea battle that didn’t pull any punches.

Expanding on the numbers a bit, Game of Thrones reportedly scored a 4.3 in the ever-important 18-49 demographic.

The huge viewership numbers might be a result of HBO’s current offer of free streaming for 1 month, but that probably has a small effect. Each year we’ve seen Game of Thrones ratings climb, reaching new heights every season. I wouldn’t be surprised to see the record smashed again by the end of season seven, and it most certainly will be in season eight as we reach the endgame.

Looking back at the beginning, it’s strange to think the nerdy show based on our favorite books that we hoped would last a few seasons has come this far. A few years, and then some. Here’s to taking the world by storm!
