Today, HBO officially released the newest batch of images from next weekend’s episode of Game of Thrones, the fifth of season seven. The episode will be titled “Eastwatch,” named after a Night’s Watch castle by the sea. Interestingly, none of these photos appear to feature Eastwatch. Let’s break down it all down!
In the first photo, shown above, we see Tyrion and Daenerys in the aftermath of the loot train attack, with the Dothraki behind them. We see Daenerys addressing the crowd (including the opposition’s survivors) in the preview for this weekend’s new episode, and this photo looks to be from the same scene, with her Hand by her side.
Below, Tyrion is shown walking amid the destruction created by Drogon’s flames, with nothing but ash and ruin. Is he searching for what’s left of Jaime, if Tyrion didn’t see his brother knocked aside at the last moment? Or simply taking in the devastation caused to his family’s soldiers by the queen he’s chosen?
After this, there’s a slight jump in location and time- Daenerys is soon back at Dragonstone, with Jon Snow joining her on the cliffs, so we can presume that the speedy pace of season 7 will continue with “Eastwatch.”
Dany is wearing the same outfit and hairstyle she was during “The Spoils of War” battle, so she may have only just arrived back at home in this scene. For a woman who has just won a major victory, Daenerys doesn’t look thrilled. Was the damage to Drogon worse than it seems?
In her royal bedroom, Cersei sits wearing the martial dress we saw her in last episode. Her expression is almost inscrutable, but my impression is that she looks pleased, which would be at odds with Jaime’s life being endangered at the end of episode 4.
With Daenerys home, it’s back to the war room for Varys as he sits at the Painted Table. More dragon pieces seem to be in play on the board now.
And of course, the merman has to get a good bitch session in with Tyrion. If the Queen’s Hand is truly concerned about her Fire and Blood antics, I suspect it’ll be in the conversation with Tyrion that we would hear about it.
Sam and Gilly are hitting the books again in their cozy home. The script was too small and blurry to be read, so there was nothing to be gleaned from that. But if they’re showing the duo reading again, there has to be pertinent info at play, otherwise the show would not bother.
What are you all looking forward to most this week?
