Maisie Williams and Sophie Turner share the cover of GLAMOUR UK’s Spring/Summer 2019 issue, with the best friends/Stark sisters discussing body positivity, mental health, and coming up in the age of #MeToo.
“I never experienced any of that,” Turner tells the magazine. “But Maisie is definitely my protector and I’m hers, too. I know if anything happened – especially if it was on Game Of Thrones, which it never, ever would – she’d go fucking crazy and protect me. To have a sister there, a woman who gets how degrading and awful it can be, and how you’re expected to be so submissive in your work, can be very comforting. Maisie is my strong home.”
The women are loaded with positive things to say about each other and their time on GoT. “Everyone on set is sick and tired of us being so loud and laughing so much!” says Williams. “I don’t know if we’ll work together again. I don’t know if people would cast us in something together because we are so known for these two characters. Game Of Thrones will be some of the funniest days of my life.”
HBO released a new Inside Game of Thrones featurette today, to get fans revved up for season 8! There’s no new footage but it’s a fun one nonetheless, offering us A Story in Prostethics with Prosthetics Designer Barrie Gower.
Emilia Clarke is tired of talking about everyone’s ass.
“I think (it) speaks much more to the society that we live in, that it keeps asking this question…” she told the press at a roundtable interview in London last month, according to TheNewPaper. “Kit’s arse, someone else’s arse, my arse, it doesn’t matter. It’s not what the show is about, it’s not what any bit of acting is about.”
Of the connection between Jon and Daenerys, the actress says, “It is the most important relationship that either of them has. I think it is a really, really defining thing for them both.”
When she got a hold of the script for the final season, Clarke says she “spent three hours walking aimlessly round London trying to process it.” She tells The New Paper that, “Because it is the last one, you go in reading it with a different mindset than you would reading any other season…It might as well have been raining and I would have just walked in it, not knowing what to do. So yeah, it’s a good one….Every part of this last season is a surprise. The end. If I say more, I am going to get told off.”
CNET talks to Sven Martin, a visual-effects supervisor with Pixomondo, the Emmy-winning wizards who bring the dragons to life on Game of Thrones every year. The dragons are such an integral part of the show’s magic, people sometimes forget they’re not really there.
“What makes the dragons from Game of Thrones so special is that they are not just beasts or monsters, nor are they overacted movie characters,” Martin says to CNET. “Their overall treatment as real living animals with just enough expressions to understand their feelings makes the audience to connect with them, similar to the emotional connection with pets.”
For the dragons, Pixomondo drew inspiration from lizards, snakes and a chicken!
“For the skin color patterns we went even further, picking ideas from frogs or cheetahs,” Martin said. “Every detail of the dragons has a counterpart in the animal world.”
