And the award nominations keep on coming. Yesterday, the Directors Guild of America (DGA) announced its nominations for outstanding directorial achievement in television, commercials and documentary for 2016. Miguel Sapochnik, the man behind both “Battle of the Bastards” and “The Winds of Winter,” was nominated, as destiny intended. Here’s what the field looks like:
Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Dramatic Series
- The Duffer Brothers—Stranger Things, “Chapter One: The Vanishing of Will Byers”
- Ryan Murphy—The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story, “From the Ashes of Tragedy”
- Jonathan Nolan—Westworld, “The Original”
- Miguel Sapochnik—Game of Thrones, “The Battle of the Bastards”
- John Singleton—The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story, “The Race Card”
You will note that the DGA has miswritten the title of the episode. It’s just “Battle of the Bastards,” guys, not “The Battle of the Bastards.” Someone probably should have checked that.
This is Sapochnik’s first DGA nomination, although he won an Emmy for directing “Battle of the Bastards” last year. Unfortunately, Sapochnik is not in the lineup of directors for Game of Thrones Season 7, but we’re holding out hope for Season 8.
The winners will be announced on Saturday, February 4 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills. Best of luck to Sapochnik!
