The wait for new Game of Thrones Season 6 footage continues this week. But if you’re desperate to see Kit Harington, you’ll only have to wait…until April. No, not for the new season–after all, Jon Snow is dead, haven’t you heard?–but to see Harington live.
Yes, according to Broadway.com, Kit Harington is returning to do live theater this coming spring in London’s West End. He’ll be headlining Christopher Marlowe’s seminal work Doctor Faustus, which goes up at the Duke of York’s Theatre. The Daily Mail notes that Harington was actively looking to get back into live stage work this time last year. (Prior to Game of Thrones, Harington played the role of Albert Narracott in War Horse.) Perhaps those insistent that Snow will not return are on to something? But then, why would he be doing a theatrical production with a schedule that fits perfectly into the Game of Thrones filming off season?
Meanwhile, here in the US, the #OscarsSoWhite campaign has been getting a lot of attention. But the fight for diversity isn’t limited to our shores. In Germany, critics are starting to hear those in their country who are also protesting being typecast and marginalized on screen. One of those is Game of Thrones own Sibel Kekilli, whose Turkish roots have forced her to have to fight against being typecast in this way. DW.com notes in their article on the controversy that Kekilli has been using her increased worldwide visibility on Game of Thrones to actively speak out, appealing for more diverse offerings. Currently she has succeeded for herself, partly because of the status being on Game of Thrones has given her, leveraging it into being cast as “German” detective Sarah Brandt in Tatort.
Natalie Dormer is still at it, promoting movie flop (and minorly boycotted) The Forest. The best way to get attention? Talk about Game of Thrones and nudity:
‘There’s plenty of male nudity in Game of Thrones, too. Sex is part of life, ergo it’s part of art. If you’re representing real life, then you will represent sex.’
