Game of Thrones Season 6 Trailer: Twitter reaction

 

So. The trailer for Game of Thrones Season 6 just dropped. The internet, predictably, had a minor meltdown. There was dancing and hollering, and also GIFs.

It feels like we’ve been waiting longer than usual for this one, so perhaps some fervent celebration was in order. So let’s just shake it out…

Okay, is that good?

This might go on for a while.

It never hurts to mix fandoms a bit. We’ve gotta be getting near the end of the breathless enthusiasm now…

That will do.

It seems like Cersei’s “I choose violence” line has already struck a bit of a chord. Media outlets snuck it into their copy…

…and other users cited it as they hopped aboard the hype train.

Shall we all choose violence? Is it a rallying cry?

Other fans were surprised to see the breadth of footage on display.

I can see that point of view, but I also think a big part of the reason I saw spoilers in the trailer is because I’ve been following spoilers obsessively and knew what to look for. Would I have recognized shots of what appeared to be the fight at the Tower of Joy, for example, if I didn’t know it was coming?

Game of Thrones fans being who they are, several of them posted shots that particularly intrigued them. This shot, the final one in the trailer, has been making the rounds:

What do you get when you put Davos, Longclaw, a couple of angry Night’s Watchmen, Ghost, and Jon Snow’s dead body in a room together? I don’t know, but I am very intrigued to find out more.

That is a good question! When watching the trailer straight through, I thoughts these were two women kissing, but after pausing I think the figure on the right is a man. They appear to be making out in public, which means this scene either takes place in a brothel or among the Dothraki. I can’t tell if either of those people are characters we know. I don’t think so…

And of course, some are already claiming to have seen one Mr. Jon Snow, recently seen getting stabbed to death at Castle Black, in the haze.

I honestly don’t know. Put a pin in that one.

That’s the question, isn’t it? Now that the trailer out, it’s open season on hyping Game of Thrones Season 6. I think we can expect to see HBO push its marketing machine into overdrive. Just over 46 days to go until the premiere. There’s only one thing to do in the meantime.

A solid plan.
