Last week, Entertainment Weekly published one of four deleted scenes from the upcoming DVD/Blu-ray release of Game of Thrones Season 5. That scene focused on the relationship between Alliser Thorne and Tormund Giantsbane, two characters who didn’t get much screentime together in the season proper. Now, The Wall Street Journal has uploaded another deleted scene. This one also focuses on an offbeat pairing: Daario and Grey Worm, in an extension of a scene from “The House of Black and White.”
- Daario: “How is Missandei, from the isle of Naith?”
- Grey Worm: “She’s good.”
Replace “the isle of Naith” with “Topeka” and these could be two bros talking about their love lives. Grey Worm’s clearly not a fan of the trash-talking, though.
This is a fun scene that does a little character-building for Daario (I can’t tell if he was joking and Grey Worm took it the wrong way, or if he was really suggesting what he seemed to be suggesting), but it’s not hard to see why the producers cut it. The Grey Worm/Missandei love story is among the more half-hearted subplots on the series. Whenever it’s given attention, I always think the time could be better spent on other things.
The Season 5 home boxset comes out on March 15, and will include four deleted scenes in total, plus a bunch of other stuff.
