Comprehensive breakdown of the second Game of Thrones season 6 trailer

3

With less than (fewer than?) two weeks remaining until season 6, the second Game of Thrones trailer has arrived and we’re here to break it down for you!

** Speculation and therefore potential spoilers below! **

We open where the last trailer left us: at the Wall with Davos preparing to fight over Jon Snow’s body.

Game of Thrones Season 6 Trailer #2 (HBO) 0018

“I thought he was the man to lead us through the Long Night but I was wrong,” says Tormund Giantsbane over a shot of Jon Snow’s corpse.

We then transition to Meereen where Tyrion descends the steps of throne room to confront a group of Masters, one of whom looks like Michael Heath’s character, Kesh. “Do you like games, little man?” one of the Masters asks.

GoT4TyrionMasters

The High Sparrow questions Jaime: “You would spill blood in this holy place?” to which Jaime replies, “the gods won’t mind, they spill more blood than the rest of us combined.”

GoT5Sparrow

GoT6Jaime

Jaime’s last line is played over a shot of Melisandre, which is fitting (albeit in reference to a different god).

GoT7Melisandre

Drogon’s shadow passes over a Dothraki khalasar (presumably the one bringing Daenerys to Vaes Dothrak)

GoT8Drogon

Bran opens his eyes amidst the Weirwood roots in the Three-Eyed Raven’s cave

GoT9Bran

On voiceover, Jaqen H’ghar asks Arya who she is and Arya once again replies “No one” as the Waif slaps her, as we saw in the last trailer

GoT10Arya

Daenerys is stripped by a group of Dothraki women, most likely the Dosh Khaleen.

GoT11Dany

GoT12Dany

GoT13Dany

We return to the House of Black and White where we see Jaqen removing the face of a corpse.

GoT14Jaqen

“A girl has been given a second chance,” he tells a blind Arya. “There will not be a third.”

GoT15Arya

GoT16Jaqen

We get a glorious shot of Sansa bearing the Stark sigil on her dress.

GoT17Sansa

“It’s all I think about: what was taken from me,” she says over a shot of a sweaty Ramsay Bolton cleaning his blade and Walder Frey toasting his men. Black Walder (the man who cut Catelyn’s throat) is seated next to Walder Frey, confirming the character played by Tim Plester will be returning.

GoT18Ramsay

GoT19Walder

GoT20Freys

We get a closeup of Petyr Baelish in the North followed by the wide shot we saw in the first trailer.

GoT21Baelish

GoT22

Jorah Mormont inspects the greyscale that’s spreading up his arm as he says, “I know what happens” on voiceover, seemingly in reference to his terminal disease, though perhaps he’s talking about something else (where Dothraki widows go, for example).

GoT23Jorah

GoT24Jorah

Loras Tyrell languishes in prison. Margaery enters his cell and tries to comfort her brother.

GoT25Loras

GoT27Marg

“There’s no hiding from this. We have to fight,” Davos says on voiceover, as he appears to survey a battlefield outside of Winterfell with corpses burning on Bolton crosses (though the editing may be misleading that that’s actually what Davos is looking at).

GoT28Davos

GoT29Field

Varys exchanges glances with a red priestess played by Ania Bukstein. She may be the priestess Kinvara, first heard about in auditions. She then walks away from Varys and Tyrion, looking far more confident than they do.

GoT30Varys

We get a very foggy establishing shot of Pyke and the image of Euron standing on a rope bridge from the first trailer.

GoT33pyke

Euron

“Stand at the head of our army where you belong,” Cersei says on voiceover over a shot of Jaime riding through a Lannister camp, in Lannister armor.

GoT35Jaime

We get a shot of a knight in Targaryen armor fighting a man in Northern- possibly Stark- armor in a Tower of Joy flashback.

GoT36TowerofJoy

“Show them what Lannisters are, what we do to our enemies,” Cersei says over a tender moment between her and Tommen and a shot of someone approaching the High Sparrow.

GoT37Tommen

GoT40LorasSparrow

We see the shadow of one person killing another.

Shadows

Followed by a shot of FrankenMountain.

GoT41Robert

Yara walks along a rocky coastline, looking unhappy.

GoT42Yara

GoT43Yara

An armored Jaime Lannister sits on horseback next to Mace Tyrell and Highgarden soldiers before the steps of the Great Sept of Baelor. He appears higher on the steps in the second shot, approaching the Faith Militant.

GoT44Jaime

GoT45Baelor

“The real war is between the living and the dead. And make no mistake, the dead are coming” Davos says over a shot of four White Walkers, (perhaps the four horseman who stood on the cliff in “Hardhome?”) one of whom is the Night King.

GoT46White

GoT47Davos

This leads into a rapid fire series of shots, many of which are recycled from previous trailers and teasers:

A perosn is run down beyond the Wall.

GoT48Man

White Walkers approach fire.

GoT50Whites

Gilly comforts Sam.

GoT51Sam

Yara kisses a slave woman in Volantis (note the woman’s facial tattoo). It looks like the rumors about Yara visiting Volantis may be true.

GoT52Yara

The Three-Eyed Raven surveys the aftermath of a battle in a vision, given the absence of snow behind him (he’s clearly not beyond the Wall) and what appear to be corpses on the ground.

Given what we know of filming and the terrain behind him, he is witnessing the events at the Tower of Joy.

GoT53BloodRaven

Tormund unsheathes his sword in battle.

GoT54Tormund

Sansa looks alarmed.

GoT56Sansa

Arya gets knocked to the ground while sparring (presumably with the Waif, though she isn’t clear in the shot) and then springs back up.

GoT57Arya

GoT59Arya

Ramsay Bolton smiles before battle.

RamsayB

Archers and flags bearing the sigil of House Umber to the right

79 Umbers

Cersei embraces Jaime.

GoT61Cersei

The Sons of the Harpy turn to look at something as they bend over corpses.

GoT62Sons

Theon cries in front of someone who looks an awful lot like Yara.

GoT63Theon

Brienne and Pod look worried in Riverrun (going by the Tully banner in the foreground).

GoT64Brienne

A Sparrow is killed by a knight who, based on his size and armor, is FrankenMountain.

GoT65Sparrow

Drogon soars.

GoT66Dragon

After the montage, we see Tyrion, Varys, Grey Worm and Missandei together in the council room. “Dragons do not do well in captivity,” Tyrion says. “How do you know this?” Missandei asks. His answer is quintessentially Tyrion: “That’s what I do. I drink and I know things.”

GoT67Tyrion

88 Var and Miss

GoT68Tyrion

We get some more shots of a battle between wildling and Bolton forces. One of the flags to the right bears the Mormont sigil.

GoT70Battle

GoT71battle

Someone grabs Pod around the neck at Riverrun though, judging by the jaw line of the “attacker,” it’s likely just Bronn messing with him.

GoT72Pod

Wun Wun breaks down a door at the Wall.

GoT73WunWun

Meera looks up at something and reaches for her spear.

GoT74Meera

A bloody hand smears a wall. It’s most likely Arya, since the shirt sleeve matches the one she’s wearing when she leaps off the balcony in the first trailer.

GoT75Arya

The trailer concludes with Tyrion achieving his childhood dream of coming face-to-face with dragons … though Viserion and Rhaegal don’t seem too pleased.
