This episode picks up right where last week's left off, with Bran stuck in a vision and Meera trying to drag him to safety, away from the wights.
As the showrunners explain in "Inside the Episode", The Three Eyed Raven, knowing his death was imminent, "downloaded" the whole history of the world into Bran's mind. Bran is getting images of everything all at once - and we as viewers got some glimpses into what he was seeing.
