This Maryland-shaped Walmart item … doesn’t really look like Maryland
By Wesley Case (The Baltimore Sun, 2/28/2018)
It happened again, Walmart.
After a 2016 blunder involving a University of Maryland T-shirt, the retail company has been criticized by Free State residents again — this time for a wooden craft in the shape of Maryland … that doesn’t look like Maryland.
The Mike Wieringo Comic Book Industry Awards is an annual celebration of the creativity, skill, and fun of comics. The awards return for their second year on Saturday, September 29, 2018 as part of the fan- and pro-favorite convention, The Baltimore Comic-Con.
Unlike other professional industry awards, the Ringo Awards include fan participation in the nomination process along with an esteemed jury of comics professionals.
More than 20 categories will be celebrated with top honors being given at an awards ceremony.
The Ringo Awards Committee would like to thank our 2017 inaugural year sponsors:
Presenting Sponsors:
Gold Sponsors:
Silver Sponsors:
Gift Bag Sponsors:
If you would like to sponsor the Ringo Awards in 2018, please email us at contact@ringoawards.com for more information.
Fan and pro-jury voting are tallied independently, and the combined nomination ballot is compiled by the Ringo Awards Committee. The top two fan choices become nominees, and the jury’s selections fill the remaining three slots for five total nominees per category. Ties may result in more than five nominees in a single category. Nominees will be listed on the ballot alphabetically. Nomination ballot voting will be open to the public (fans and pros) starting March 15, 2018 and will close May 30, 2018.
New in 2018, we have added two categories based on juror feedback from our inaugural year:
Open to Fans and Pros, we are now including “Best Kids Comic or Graphic Novel”. This category recognizes publications that are tailored to the evolving generation of comic readers, and one that Mike Wieringo would have been behind 100%.
In Fan-Only Favorites, we have added “Favorite Publisher” to the list, allowing readers to nominate the publisher they thought created the best works in the previous year. Will it be one of the big comics houses? An online company? Perhaps a book publisher? Did an indie publisher knock it out of the park? Your vote counts!
Jury-Only Nomination (with three bonus jurors)
Fan-Only Favorite Categories
Hero Initiative Award (selected by the Hero Initiative)
New to the Ringo Awards nomination process in 2018, we are enabling publishers to submit works for consideration to the Ringo Jurors. Publishers can submit up to five submissions per “Fan and Pro Nomination” and “Jury-Only Nomination” category that they feel are worthy of consideration. To participate in this process, publishers are asked to have a single representative send an email to contact@ringoawards.com for further information.
Michael Lance “Mike” Wieringo was known to fans and friends as “Ringo”, which is how he signed his artwork. His comics artist graced the pages of DC Comics’ The Flash, Adventures of Superman, Batman, and Robin, Marvel Comics’ Fantastic Four, Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, Sensational Spider-Man, and Rogue, and his co-creation Tellos. He passed away on August 12, 2007 at the young age of 44 from an apparent heart attack.

Season 7 adds another award to the pile! Game of Thrones‘ sound mixing team received well-deserved recognition at the Cinema Audio Society Awards last night in Los Angeles.
The episode “Beyond the Wall” won Best Sound Mixing for a One Hour Television Episode. The award was shared by production mixers Ronan Hill and Richard Dyer, re-recording mixers Onnalee Blank and Mathew Waters, and foley mixer Brett Voss. The exact same team won best sound mixing last year for the sixth season’s epic “Battle of the Bastards.”
Other notable winners included Dunkirk, the Black Mirror episode “USS Callister” and the animated film Coco. You can check out the full list of winners at Variety.

In the last few months of Game of Thrones news, much attention has been paid to the Winterfell set in Moneyglass and to the new Paint Hall set, where big things are brewing. In fact, today we bring you exciting news about the former. But there is more! The final season always promised to be a vast production, but now we know it’s even bigger, as a new set —the largest of its kind— has appeared next to what once was a mainstay of the show, yet is now a rarely revisited location: Magheramorne Quarry, Castle Black.
In Moneyglass, vegetation isn’t the only thing that stands out against the snow anymore. GoTlike Locations shows there is something new: corpses litter the fields of Winterfell.
It’s difficult to tell in any detail, but this panorama looks similar to the aftermath of Stannis’ and Jon Snow’s battles against the Boltons in Winterfell, in seasons five and six. As well as what appear to be corpses of soldiers, there are larger bodies — probably poor dead horses. Thankfully, they are all props, as we have seen many times before.Winterfell filming began in late November, but of course it wasn’t all for this action sequence. However, the third battle for the Stark stronghold, which will likely take place in the mid-season, has been in uninterrupted production since —at least— late January. A month and one great revelation later, it’s still not showing any signs of slowing down. Going by the filming schedules of previous battles, it wouldn’t be surprising if this battle shoot extended into March, at which point the next big thing will take its place.
But there are other “big things.” Thanks again to GoTlike Locations, we know the show’s two largest sets, sites for the eighth season’s two great battles, now have competition:
As you can see, near Magheramorne Quarry, where Castle Black stands and the battles of Blackwater and Hardhome were shot, a gigantic green screen has been erected. This green screen set may rival most expensive Hollywood productions! I don’t know if it is a world record, but it’s certainly a record for the show, and maybe for the country. Now, all there is left for us to wonder is: what is Game of Thrones planning to do with this massive new playground? Most recently, similar (though smaller) green screen sets were used for the Magnificent Seven’s fight against the wight polar bear and the White Walkers’ approach to the Wall. So this one is probably going to be used for action sequence elements that were deemed to be unfilmable in a real set. With that enticing thought, I leave you all to let your imagination run wild in the comment section below!

In news you already knew, but just love to be teased with anyway, Maisie Williams (Arya Stark) appeared on Jimmy Kimmel the other night, and giggled her way through her interview, because she can’t tell us anything she knows about Game of Thrones season 8. However! The details were there, if only one chooses to look between the lines! While Maisie was there to promote her new film, Early Man, Jimmy, a known GoT fan, wouldn’t let her slide without pressing her on just a few nagging questions…
“Shouldn’t you be plotting to kill Cersei Lannister right now?” quipped eager fanboy, Jimmy. In response, Maisie went on to talk about how much shooting she still has left to do. We reported filming to have begun on October 23rd, so, presumably being a devoted WOTW fan, Jimmy asked Maisie the tough follow-up question of “Then we know, based on that, that you’re in a lot of the episodes.” But, ever quick on her feet, Maisie retorted with “No…not necessarily, cause some of the episodes take a really long time to shoot…” *smolders.* Man, I feel like I’m a debate commentator here. You should watch it!
However, in case you don’t, other highlights include Maisie not actually stating that there will be 6 episodes of season 8, even though we have long confirmed this (I think she just was unsure of what she is and isn’t allowed to say so I think she was just covering her bases; I wouldn’t read too far into this); Maisie admitting that she showed her mom the script (Maisie! What are you doing?!?! Somebody call Game of Thrones security!); and, most importantly, the actress being doubtful of the claim that multiple endings are being shot — she essentially dismisses HBO’s programming president Casey Bloys’ statement, which we called into question from the very beginning.
Watch the interview and see what else she has to say!
Lastly, I know this is a huge surprise to everyone, but… Variety reports that Game of Thrones has won yet another award, this time by the Costume Designers Guild. Their win was in the ‘Excellence in Sci-Fi/Fantasy Television’ category. While I haven’t seen other nominees Sleepy Hollow or Star Trek: Discovery, and not having seen Once Upon a Time in three years, I can only compare it to, Black Mirror: U.S.S. Callister. While it was a great watch (seriously, go watch it), the costumes don’t hold a candle to GoT.

Hold your (dark) horses everyone! Dark Horse Deluxe and HBO have joined forces with a new line of Game of Thrones merch that was recently presented at Toy Fair 2018 in New York City. There are a nice variety of products to be unveiled, from a jigsaw puzzle, to a Targaryen throne replica, to even a bookend!
Here we find ourselves with the gorgeously realized Dragonstone throne on which Daenerys proudly sits. I’m not a replica guy, but dang that’s pretty to look at.
This is what the Dragonstone gate would look like if it were stylized for a bookend. For those under the age of 30, a bookend keeps a row of books upright on a shelf and is frequently designed (like above) to be part of the bookshelf’s aesthetic. For those under the age of 20, a book is what a kindle and an iPad used to look like.
Lastly we have a puzzle. Once a year or so, I get a new puzzle and join Puzzle Club for a week while I hammer away at whatever art I’ve gotten. Just ask my wall, which currently hangs two completed puzzles; maybe I’ll make this Game of Thrones special my 2018 wall addition!
Coming up soon will be Daenerys Targaryen’s Map Markers from season 7, including Houses Targaryen, Stark, Lannister, and Greyjoy along with the Unsullied, and the Dothraki. Can’t wait to get our hands on those pics and see what’s next!

We have brought you regular updates on the massive, months-long Game of Thrones construction project going on next to the Paint Hall, but somehow it never gets boring. Perhaps that’s because this is the biggest set built for the show ever — by far. Or perhaps it’s because of what we know it means for the story (spoilers!). Whatever the case may be, as the construction nears completion, this is only getting better and better!
Today, we bring you the best look yet at the city block and walls the construction crew have so intricately created on a Belfast parking lot. Even by the high standards of the show, this looks pretty amazing. Take a look, though there are some spoilers ahead!
A representative of a local Belfast company, Stira Folding Attic Chairs, went by Titanic Studios and was shocked by just how real the set looked — so much so that at first glance they thought they had missed there was a castle there this whole time. Thankfully, their impression isn’t all we’ve got, as they also provided photos:
The production value here is astounding. The detailing on the walls surpasses anything we’ve seen before in the show for such a set. Remember, for instance, the walls of Casterly Rock, which looked fine enough, but you could probably tell they were a set and not filmed on an actual Medieval castle. In this case? I believe most people will be fooled!
As you may know, the walls of King’s Landing in the show have mostly been filmed in Dubrovnik, Croatia. But only the walls near the Red Keep look like that: last year we were shown that the walls further from the castle look a bit different, as you can see in the captured frame of season seven at the top. It appears that for the King’s Landing set for season eight the production design team chose to follow the appearance of this section of the wall, filmed at Trujillo Castle in Spain, instead of the famous Dubrovnik city walls.
Of course, there is more to it than that. Did you notice, for instance, the huge hole between the two gate towers… and, indeed, the absence of a gate? Let’s enhance!
Way back in November last year, we pointed out the gate appeared to be “in ruins”, which meant “the city may be penetrated.” The initial observation was as correct as the inferred supposition: this is a breach through one of the gates of King’s Landing.
Other deductions can be made from these pictures. Inside the set, only the facades of the city buildings are being built, as usual, because they are just for show — not meant to be entered into, unlike the city walls. However, in this case they are building up to the roofs, including elaborate roof tilings. You can take a closer look in these photos:
This may seem normal, but it just isn’t. Since these buildings are quite tall, most normal shots wouldn’t capture the roofs, so usually no one would bother to build them; only what’s necessary is constructed, and then enhanced with visual effects in the rare shots that go beyond the real sets. For example, until this year the Winterfell set didn’t actually include any of the castle’s iconic towers; only some of their walls were built. The fact that these towers were recreated for season eight meant they were planning highly elaborate sequences, and the same can be said here. What I’m saying is: expect lots of aerial shots. Of course, that matches rather well with what we know of this sequence!
Thanks to “A Red Priestess” on Twitter for tipping us off about these photos!

During the ever-expanding off-season months, Storm of Spoilers sets off on a tour of other interesting pop culture worlds, from wizarding worlds to alternate realms to galaxies far, far away. Said one anonymous iTunes reviewer, “If you’re a book reader, this is the Game of Thrones podcast you’ve been looking for.”

Happy Monday, everyone! It’s time for a long overdue follow-up on a Game of Thrones casting post from last fall. In November, a trio of fresh names popped up on our radar. Danielle Galligan and Emer McDaid were confirmed as new season 8 additions, with the two actresses posing on Instagram for a pic with a third actress: Alice Nokes.
At the time, it was unknown if Nokes would be appearing on Game of Thrones, but new info has cleared that up! Nokes’ agency CV confirms that she’ll be playing a character named “Willa.” She’ll be in a David Nutter episode this season. (Nutter is helming the first, second and fourth episodes of season 8.)
Nokes is best known for a recurring role as Courtney Mitchell on EastEnders. As for her GoT role, well that’s still a mystery. Willa is not a book character. There are a couple “Wylla”s in ASOIAF, but I suspect this Willa is not connected.
In other Season 8 casting news: Game of Thrones is currently casting for a Military Guard for the new season. The character is aged 25-35, and the role is open to any ethnicity. The part appears to be a small one, filming for one day- March 2nd- in Northern Ireland. The casting folk are searching for a “fit and agile excellent actor with a good distinctive face,” someone who feels like “he can handle himself in a fight.”
This particular role is probably not of any importance but it’s good to know casting has resumed, and the type of role could hint at what’s being filmed around N.I.’s studios next week and beyond. A military man could be a part of Dany’s Unsullied (especially since the part’s open to any ethnicity) or the guard could be a part of Cersei’s army. We’ll keep our eyes turned toward Belfast sightings over the next couple weeks and see what turns up!

Last night, Game of Thrones won two Golden Reel Awards for Sound Editing. Unsurprisingly, both awards were for “The Spoils of War.”
The jaw-dropping episode won Outstanding Achievement in Sound Editing – Episodic Short Form – Effect/Foley. The award was shared by Supervising Sound Editor, Tim Kimmel; Sound Designer, Paula Fairfield (who we at WOTW got to see at Con of Thrones); Sound Effects Editor, Bradley Katona; Foley Editors, Brett Voss and John Matter and Foley Artists, Jeff Wilhoit and Dylan Tuomy-Wilhoit
“The Spoils of War” also won Outstanding Achievement in Sound Editing – Episodic Short Form – Dialogue/ADR, which was shared by Supervising Sound Editor, Tim Kimmel; Supervising Dialogue Editor, Paul Bercovitch and Supervising ADR Editor, Tim Hands.
Game of Thrones won all the awards for which it was nominated (2/2 woo-hoo!). But it’s worth noting that the majority of the winners in television categories are Netflix originals. Godless, Ozark, Black Mirror, The Get Down and Stranger Things all took home gold. Mayhaps this indicates something about the future of television?
You can find the entire list of winners in Variety’s coverage of the event.

The eighth and final season of Game of Thrones is still a year away at least, but in the meantime we have plenty of material to theorize about the endgame for the surviving characters of the series.
Heroes, villains and innocent people have died in a plethora of different ways: poisoned, cut down, burned, stabbed, beheaded and even eaten by dogs, and that’s just off the top of my head! But the Lannister siblings are still around, ever since the very beginning of the series, and they have changed quite a lot since then.
Cersei finally holds the Iron Throne, but the cost has been high: all her children are dead and her father is gone as well. Tyrion stopped being an alcoholic hedonist and acquired a new of sense of purpose as the Hand of Daenerys Targaryen, but his journey has been long and painful, narrowly escaping death dozens of times and also turned into a slave for a time. And Jaime went from cocksure arrogance and a fearsome reputation as the Kingslayer, to a cripple who wallowed in self pity for a while, but is now trying to regain his sense of honor and truly earn his place in the White Book of the Kingsguard.
Despite being a book reader, I find myself in uncharted territory, because the show’s characters and their stories have effectively divorced the source material. George R.R. Martin has given David Benioff and Dan Weiss all the details and the roadmap, but the show, more than a simple adaptation, is its own thing now. In my opinion, that’s good, since instead of having a carbon copy of the novels, we have two similar stories that are unique and surprising in their own ways. When The Winds of Winter (and eventually, A Dream of Spring) sees release, there’s no doubt parts of it will make us remember the TV adaptation, but it won’t be entirely the same.
Based on knowledge from the books, and what we’ve seen in 67 episodes of the show, I’ll make an educated guess of what’s ahead for the last of the Lannisters in the remaining six episodes of Game of Thrones.
JAIME
Last time we saw the Kingslayer he was riding to Winterfell in order to honor his pledge and aid the North in the looming Great War. Long behind are the days in which he could have been considered an “oathbreaker” (which was always unfair in a way, since the alternative was to let King’s Landing burn).
His evolution has been really fascinating. He started out as an antagonist of sorts, with an arrogant and hateful attitude, but losing his right hand and (most importantly) spending time with Brienne of Tarth made him reevaluate his life and change his character. His word may be still considered worthless by most people, but actions such as him sparing Olenna Tyrell from a painful and humiliating death and later abandoning his beloved Cersei after realizing she had no intentions whatsoever of helping Daenerys and Jon, show a real and palpable transformation.
So, what lies ahead for Jaime? We can assume he’ll reach Winterfell during the first episode or the second at the latest. The journey from King’s Landing is supposed to take months, but traveling distances and logistics have never been a main concern of the show (I’m not even talking about the dragons- remember Littlefinger?).
Once in there, I think he’s going to spill the beans regarding Cersei’s betrayal (it’s not like he has a lot of options to explain why he went on his own to Winterfell) and be straightforward about how he’s the only help they’ll get from the south. I can’t imagine many people will be too thrilled about such news, and maybe one or two northern lords will suggest holding him captive or executing him in order to get back at Cersei, but those options obviously won’t fly. The Cersei matter will have to be dealt with later, but at least she won’t take the Dany/Jon crew by surprise.
At some point, Jaime is going to have to meet with Bran. It seems like an obvious prediction to make, but how that conversation will go is anyone’s guess. Given the way he coldly dismissed Meera, I don’t expect the Three-Eyed Raven to care much about the reveal that Jaime is the one who pushed him out the window (if he doesn’t already know, that is), since he’s not just Bran anymore. And ironically enough, if it wasn’t for Jaime’s attempt to murder him, he probably wouldn’t have traveled beyond the Wall to become what he is now. So perhaps there won’t be forgiveness, but I don’t see a desire to take revenge either. No doubt Bran will keep the information to himself, since telling his siblings would cause unnecessary drama in the worst possible moment (but will he tell Jon about his true parentage?).
Jaime may lack his right hand, but he’s got battle experience and a Valyrian steel sword, and no doubt Widow’s Wail will be put to good use when the time to fight the White Walkers comes. And as a curious observation, considering Brienne is going to be at Winterfell as well, in a way Ice would be back home.
And when your tears have drowned you, the valonqar shall wrap his hands about your pale white throat and choke the life from you.
A Feast for Crows, Cersei VIII
One of the most popular ASOIAF theories is that Jaime is going to be the one who kills Cersei, since he’s likely the “Valonqar” (little brother) from Maggy the Frog’s prophecy. While that would be a way to allow Jaime’s story to go full circle (saving King’s Landing from a mad ruler once again), I don’t think that’s going to be the case here. He’s disappointed enough to leave her and go fight alongside her enemies, but surely he still loves her and is doing it out of a desire to protect Cersei and the baby. He knows there’s no future if the White Walkers win the war, and if Dany’s forces can’t stop them, there’s no way Cersei’s hired swords will be able to do it, even if they have elephants.
If he doesn’t die in the North (either fighting alongside Brienne or taking one for the team and sacrificing himself to save Bran or somebody else), then it should be interesting to see if he’s going to stick around with Dany et al., or if he’ll return to Cersei’s side (though I can’t imagine she’d be too happy after he rode north against her will).
If Cersei won’t have him back (or if he decides to stick with Jon and Dany), then that opens up a perfect opportunity to get back at Euron Greyjoy for all the taunting he subjected Jaime to. The past season pitted them as rivals for Cersei’s affections and trust, so the day of reckoning could come soon for the Greyjoy king.
Assuming that hypothetical fight doesn’t kill Jaime, and he makes it to the end of the war, would he be able to settle down? Fans who ship Tormund and Brienne may not agree, but after everything is said and done, I’d like to see him enjoying of a small measure of peace alongside the Maid of Tarth.
CERSEI
Whereas her book counterpart is steadily descending into madness and paranoia, the show’s version of Cersei is very much in control of her own fate –and that of King’s Landing.
Cersei’s on her own, but not alone. Her hand Qyburn and her protector Gregor remain loyal, and so does Euron Greyjoy. While her political enemies are busy fighting the Night King, she’ll be amassing her forces and preparing for an inevitable siege. Sooner or later the living or the dead will march on King’s Landing and she’ll be ready to receive them.
There are, of course, many variables. Should the living prevail, then Cersei will turn into a “final boss” of sorts, the last obstacle between Daenerys and the Iron Throne. On the other hand, if the Night King is the one who wins, then Dany and Jon may be forced to consider (once again) an uneasy alliance with Cersei in order to pull a last-ditch effort for everyone’s survival. Standing aside and allowing the undead to massacre and turn Cersei’s forces will only help the Night King.
This time, Cersei could be inclined to actually honor the pact. Her own survival (and that of her kingdom) is at stake, and the combined forces of Dany and Jon will be weakened enough (perhaps considerably) to be a major threat against her anymore. Besides, they both could still die during the battle, which is a plus.
The final battle won’t be won by the Night King, however. Don’t worry, that’s not a spoiler, but an assumption. I don’t see this story taking the nihilistic path of having the undead winning the Great War. And even though Cersei keeping the throne afterwards and thwarting Dany’s efforts could be considered a bittersweet ending, I don’t think it’ll go down that way:
My prediction is that when the undead are defeated, Cersei will want to get rid of Daenerys, Jon and the rest. Because while they certainly won’t be as powerful a force as before, they’ll always represent a threat – they can recover and regroup one day to come back and lay siege to King’s Landing. Cersei is pragmatic and she’ll want to rip them all out, root and stem. Even more so if Maggy turns out to be wrong and she gives birth to a new heir.
The pregnancy aspect will be an interesting plot point to solve, because I don’t think the screenwriters will have a pregnant woman getting killed a second time, no matter if she’s effectively a villain. So Cersei will either suffer a miscarriage early in the final season (and so Maggy’s prophecy will remain true) or she’ll have the baby.
In any case, if she ends up cornered by her enemies, she won’t allow herself to be captured or killed. I think Cersei would consider suicide a better way out: using poison (like when she thought Stannis would win the Blackwater battle) or going out in a wildfire explosion (which could explain the ruined Red Keep that Dany saw in the House of the Undying, if it wasn’t the doing of the undead Viserion or one of Dany’s dragons). Jumping through a window, like her son Tommen did, is also a possibility.
If there’s anyone who could get close enough so as to murder her, that’d be either Jaime or Arya Stark. The “valonqar” part of the prophecy was left out of the show, probably to avoid spelling out the way Cersei will die. Since I don’t think Jaime will do it (he’s too obvious a candidate and therefore probably a red herring), Arya could be the one who takes the big fish to fry, using the face of Littlefinger (or Qyburn, if he falls to Arya’s hands in a moment Cersei’s not looking). Sandor would take care of Gregor, and therefore making the much-hyped Cleganebowl a reality.
For Arya, it’d be satisfactory to finally have revenge on one of the people responsible for many of the woes she and her family have suffered.
TYRION
Tyrion’s currently between a rock and a hard place. He doesn’t want to fight his family, but Dany is fed up with his “clever plans”.
Jaime joining his cause (if only to fight against the Night King and his army) should make things a bit easier for him, but clearly hurting his pregnant sister isn’t among his main goals – so, not out of the woods just yet.
Tyrion has never been a warrior, and therefore has only fought with weapons when forced by the circumstances. His true weapon is his sharp mind and knack for strategy: he prevented Stannis from taking over King’s Landing and kept the peace in Meereen until Dany returned. He also cleared the path for the dragon queen to legally slay her enemies and take their ships after they violated the pact. Not too shabby indeed.
Despite being outmaneuvered by his siblings during the events of Season 7, in part due to his efforts to avoid a direct confrontation, he should prove an invaluable ally when planning the defense of Winterfell against the invading Army of the Dead.
It may be obvious, but Winterfell will either be saved or destroyed. I’m leaning towards the latter, because having the undead stopped in their tracks just as they start their invasion of Westeros would be rather anticlimactic. So the living will try to stand their ground, but the castle will ultimately fall – and the living will be forced to retreat to the south. I can see some of the Unsullied (and perhaps Grey Worm?) and northern soldiers staying behind to buy some time for their king and queen.
Depending in whether there’ll be an alliance with Cersei or not (if the undead make it past Winterfell), Tyrion’s knowledge of the capital and its weak spots will come in handy to plan either a defense or an attack. If Dany’s remaining two dragons are still alive by then, breaching the walls won’t be much of a problem – though I expect them to take a back seat. Tyrion doesn’t want to use their power against the city, and doing so would put them in danger of getting hit by scorpion bolts (unless they get some light armor for the dragons. It should be Smaug 101: make sure to cover the unprotected spots).
Speaking of dragons: the Night King destroyed the theory of Tyrion becoming a rider. The dragon has three heads alright, but one of them is undead now. While it’s kind of a shame our favorite Imp most likely won’t get to look down over the world, seated on a dragon’s back, maybe he’ll be able to catch a ride the same way the wight-hunting party did in the sixth episode of Season 7 (“Beyond the Wall”).
Call it plot armor if you will, but Tyrion may be one of the few characters who will survive the Great War. He won’t sit the Iron Throne, but I’m certain he’ll become the lord of Casterly Rock. Even if Jaime survives as well, he already forfeited his right to it, and the castle would be a fine reward for Tyrion’s loyalty and service as Hand of the Queen.
If Cersei gives birth to a child, and they become an orphan, probably Tyrion will be the one who adopts them. He was always fond of Tommen and Myrcella, and his days of whoring and drinking are far behind in the past. Besides, this way the survival of House Lannister is guaranteed, though Tyrion could eventually have children of his own.
It’s going to be a while before we can see how right or far off my predictions are, but for now it’s been a fun exercise. The sixth book is still in the oven, but meanwhile the show is providing us an exciting opportunity to come up with fresh theories and questions about the future of all the characters we love (or love to hate).
Before the arrival of Game of Thrones, we only had the books to discuss, and it was just a matter of time before the well of theories and predictions dried up (which is why some of the reveals like Jon’s resurrection or the return of the Hound didn’t surprise book readers all that much), but as we get closer to the series finale, all bets are off now.
With only six episodes left, the canvas isn’t too big, but there’s enough room for dozens of possibilities, particularly when it comes to the major players. I’m hoping for some curveballs from the secondary characters, and most of all, a memorable sendoff to Westeros and one of the most impressive television series ever made.
