Last night, Game of Thrones won two Golden Reel Awards for Sound Editing. Unsurprisingly, both awards were for “The Spoils of War.”
The jaw-dropping episode won Outstanding Achievement in Sound Editing – Episodic Short Form – Effect/Foley. The award was shared by Supervising Sound Editor, Tim Kimmel; Sound Designer, Paula Fairfield (who we at WOTW got to see at Con of Thrones); Sound Effects Editor, Bradley Katona; Foley Editors, Brett Voss and John Matter and Foley Artists, Jeff Wilhoit and Dylan Tuomy-Wilhoit
“The Spoils of War” also won Outstanding Achievement in Sound Editing – Episodic Short Form – Dialogue/ADR, which was shared by Supervising Sound Editor, Tim Kimmel; Supervising Dialogue Editor, Paul Bercovitch and Supervising ADR Editor, Tim Hands.
Game of Thrones won all the awards for which it was nominated (2/2 woo-hoo!). But it’s worth noting that the majority of the winners in television categories are Netflix originals. Godless, Ozark, Black Mirror, The Get Down and Stranger Things all took home gold. Mayhaps this indicates something about the future of television?
