As most of Westeros struggles this week with weather so cold it has the White Walkers looking for mittens, we here at Watchers on the Wall are looking for ways to warm your soul — will a roundup of interviews from Aiden Gillen, Nathalie Emmanuel and Lena Heady do the trick?
In a recent interview with The AV Club about his new History Channel series Project Blue Book, Gillen recounted that he’s had some interesting (and by that we mean strange) encounters with fans — everything from people wiggling their little finger at him to having a curse placed on him while he rode an elevator in the Czech Republic. To be fair, Littlefinger is a creep, so creepy things happening to him is par for the course (although we’re sorry Gillen has to deal with that).
Turning to one of the least creepy characters in the series, Emmanuel (who plays the kind-hearted Missandei) spoke to The Sun about how sad she is to see the Game of Thrones end, especially because she’ll miss working with the cast members that she’s become close with. She did mention that the ending will be “bittersweet” — a phrase we’ve heard countless times in the last year — but that she’s glad that the show is coming to “its natural end.”
“[Sometimes] with a TV show or anything … it gets to the point where it loses its quality and we have managed to maintain such a high quality and people still want it,” Emmanuel said. “But they are only telling it in the number of hours they need and telling it how they want to tell it.”
Emmanuel also noted that — as with many actors on the show — Thrones changed her career. “I was working in retail when I got that job,” she told The Sun.
Last but not least, HEADEY HAS SPOILED SEASON 8! Kidding…we had to get your attention somehow for a 40-second clip from TheWrap, because in truth Heady divulged absolutely nothing as part of an interview at the recent Sundance Film Festival — just that stairs are involved.
“I can’t tell you anything apart from I descend some stairs and ascend some stairs,” Headey said during an interview to promote her new film Fighting With My Family.
“What about that for a spoiler?” said the film’s director Stephen Merchant. “But why is she going up and why is she going down?”
We’ll have to wait until Season 8 premieres on April 14th to find out — but one of things we do best in this fandom is over-analyze and speculate on every minute detail we can get our hands on, so keep your eyes peeled for the inevitable 30-minute YouTube video theorizing what the stairs mean. And in the meantime, stay warm (and if you’re in a Dorne-like climate, stay quiet)!
