As in so many years past, tonight’s 68th Annual Emmy Awards began with a skit. In this case, host Jimmy Kimmel had to find a ride to the show, by any means necessary. He ran into various cast members from prominent nominees, and oh, how we laughed…
Anyway, toward the end of the sketch, Kimmel fell on his knees to and beseeched God (well, Oprah, technically) to help him reach destination. And his call was heard:

So Daenerys swooped in on Drogon, her dragon, and carted Kimmel off to the awards show. And then Drogon burned Ryan Seacrest (but he’s not quite dead), as was bound to happen.
It’s pretty clear that the Emmys repurposed shots of Drogon from the show rather than create new ones. I mean, that was pretty much their only option—dragons cost a lot. All in all, it was a fun opening bit to tonight’s show.
Game of Thrones is up for a whole pile of awards tonight, but ABC is making us wait until near the end of the broadcast to see who won. Smart, that—they know we want it. Anyway, we’ll bring you news about what goes down as it happens. Best of luck to all the nominees!
