“It’s fun! Look at the fun we’re having!” —Tyrion Lannister
Welcome back to our Game of Thrones March Madness tournament, where we pit characters from the show against each other round by round to see who fans love the most. This one’s on top, then that one’s on top, and on and on it spins…until we crown a champion.
We didn’t have quite as many upsets in the Sweet 16 as in the Round of 32, but there were still some surprises. Let’s look at the Sweet 16 results.
Tyrion Lannister vs. Jaime Lannister
Cersei Lannister vs. Tywin Lannister
Bronn vs. Theon Greyjoy
Sansa Stark vs. Arya Stark
Jon Snow vs. Davos Seaworth
Melisandre vs. Oberyn Martell
Sandor “the Hound” Clegane vs. Petyr “Littlefinger” Baelish
Daenerys Targaryen vs. Brienne of Tarth
The most competitive matchup in our Sweet 16 was far and away the showdown between the sisters Stark. Depending on when you checked the polls, each of them were in the lead, but ultimately Sansa emerged victorious.
Next, she’ll be going head to head with Theon Greyjoy. Theon took down Robb Stark in the Round of 32 and silenced Bronn in the Sweet 16. He and Sansa went through hell together at Winterfell, but that was then. This is now.
Elsewhere, the Lannisters battled for supremacy. Tyrion won a victory over his brother Jaime by a huge margin, while Tywin’s victory over Cersei was just 5%. Cersei can’t be happy about that.
Still, that sets us up for the rematch we’ve all been waiting for: Tyrion and Tywin, Round Two. Tyrion might have gotten the drop on his father in the privy, but this time the elder Lannister won’t be caught unawares.
Jon Snow won an easy victory over Davos Seaworth, but now faces off against fan favorite Oberyn Martell. Both of these guys have been breezing through so far, but this is the end of the line for one of them.
Finally, Daenerys Targaryen and Petyr Baelish, two characters who have yet to meet each other on the show, do battle in the Elite 8. Daenerys struggled in the first round against Varys before rebounding with a comfortable victory over Brienne of Tarth. Littlefinger however, has cruised to large victories over Margaery Tyrell and the Hound. That could spell trouble for the Mother of Dragons.
Below are the polls for the Elite 8. As always, there is no criteria. Choose your favorites. Voting lasts six days this time, so feel free to mull it over plenty of time to get your vote in.
