We may only be only six weeks into 2016, but over at George R.R. Martin’s NotABlog, they’re already looking ahead to next year. In a post by “Minion Raya,” on Martin’s behalf, they have posted the news that the Song of Ice and Fire calendar for 2017 is officially in production.
They also previewed one of the pieces of artwork for it, which is being done by French artist Didier Graffet. Graffet is known for his fantasy artwork, including that based on the works of Jules Verne. This is a departure from the 2016 calendar, which was done by Magali Villeneuve, who also did all the artwork for 2014’s “The World of Ice and Fire” companion coffee table book. But then again,. Martin seems to tade out his calendar artists every year. 2015’s calendar was done by Donato Giancola, 2014’s by Gary Gianni, etc.
Though the calendar has only started production, we’ve been given a glimpse of the cover art. Check it out:
The NotABlog also shares one of the pieces Graffet displayed this year at the World Science Fiction and Fantasy Convention. Though, as they point out it is “no relation to Westeros” it apparently is a piece that is hanging in Martin’s office, and the one that put him on the radar as a future collaborator for a Song of Ice and Fire project.
Though this is not a Knight of the Seven Kingdoms (or of Essos either), it gives us a taste of Graffet’s style and what we might expect for next year’s calendar artwork.
