From dinner parties to baby showers, Seth Meyers is always making sure that the characters of Game of Thrones are interacting with us common mortals of the American landscape. Last year, as part of Kit Harington’s appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers, Meyers staged a hipster type dinner party at his place in NYC, with several regular friends….and a very dour, unsmiling Jon Snow. The viral clip was such a hit that this year, he did it again. The guest this time was Carice van Houten (no relation to the Springfield van Houtens.) The invitation: to Seth Meyer’s wife Alexi’s baby shower.
The Red Priestess’ appearance at their affair goes about as well as you would expect it to.
“But the night is dark and full of terrors! Everybody knows that!” You do have to admit the part where the shadow demon killed Renly was pretty fun…well, ok maybe only if you weren’t actually there and didn’t have to watch Brienne have a complete meltdown. And as for that present of Valyrian Steel, any one who saw Hardhome knows that Melisandre’s gift is going to be very valuable when Winter arrives in New York City.
As for that “guy she works with, Jon Snow”? Turns out she’s pretty sure he’s dead too.
Van Houten also did a sit down interview, post-baby shower sketch. Note that this is the first late night interview by a cast member who is here only to promote Game of Thrones Season 6 not promoting a different project and happens to talk about Game of Thrones as part of the appearance.
I will say, that Melisandre’s look, when Jon Snow he can’t sleep with her, does very much say “B*tch please.” And personally, I don’t know why she didn’t tell this story of giving birth to a shadow-baby wasn’t the one she told at the baby shower.
