While Liam Cunningham is promoting the Game of Thrones Season 5 DVD and blu rays here in America, down under in Australia, fans of the show are being treated to Alfie Allen, who has been making the interview round in between promotional appearances for last season’s release in a home viewing format. Allen is gamely talking up Season 5, even as he attempts to answer questions and navigate the PR minefield that Sansa’s wedding night left behind. But with those answers now basically in canned reruns from outlet to outlet, it’s his comments on Season 6 that we are far more curious about. At first all he would say was that it was brilliant, but as the interviews progress he’s given a few more details.
Speaking to The New Daily, we learned that one of the things he’s looking forward to most is the Ironborn taking a larger role in the story going forward. He won’t confirm or deny if Theon survives. (He blames “HBO snipers” who are apparently always watching.) Instead he discusses a casting that HBO confirmed last year.
“We’ve got an actor called Pilou Asbæk from a show called Borgen and he plays my uncle … there’s a scene I’m very much looking forward to.”
Pilou Asbæk was confirmed last year to be playing Euron “Crow’s Eye” Greyjoy, a Ironborn pirate in the novels, and a rather terrifying and deadly figure. Now, in the books he has come back to the Iron Islands, but Theon is still mired in snow outside the walls of Winterfell, so they have not met. (Well, yet, anyway. Perhaps that’s to come in The Winds of Winter.) So it doesn’t matter if you are a book reader or an Unspoiled in this instance. Allen is teasing completely unknown waters for all levels of fans.
“In terms of epicness yes, there’s definitely something towards the end of the season which is going to blow people’s minds. You’re going to love it.”
Meanwhile, speaking to CNET, Allen promises that despite the name Ramsay gave him, he does not actually “reek.” “Constantly now throughout my life I’m wearing deodorant so people don’t think, ‘Oh, is that how you get into the character?’”
At least he also proves in the video that he knows his Game of Thrones trivia. It looks like he will not be joining Jon Snow in the realm of knowing nothing.
