A Song of Ice and Fire fans are a dedicated bunch who leave no stone unturned. One example: ASOIAF luminary and Redditor BryndenBFish examined a still from brief appearance George R.R. Martin made on John Oliver’s Last Week Tonight two years ago, in June of 2014. Watch the short clip below.
What’s Martin writing on his computer? We don’t have all the answers, but we have enough to warrant a SPOILER WARNING.
At first glance, the words on the computer seem too dim and indisinct to make out.
But BryndenBFish did some photo manipulation to better make out the text…
…and compiled what he found:
This appears to be from an Asha chapter, one that follows the Theon chapter pre-released from The Winds of Winter. The text, so far as BryndenBFish can make out:
…of the Lord Reaper of Pyke…, Ahsa thought, as she…of the…
…leader of the…wore sellsword plate and mail,…of…. The…of the…fashioned in the shape of the Twin Tower of House Frey…standard of King Tommen…
The…brandished a bloody head impaled upon the point [of a] tall spear. The old man’s head…, [white-bearded?] and…
The…, a pale [wolf?]…along…[some word like hadn’t or couldn’t… there’s an apostrophe]…
[italicized words], Asha knew. The old northman had fought…, …. Perhaps…[word with apostrophe]…
What does this chapter depict? That’s harder to make out, although I’m sure fans have ideas. Hopefully, The Winds of Winter will be on store shelves before too much longer, and we can all find out for ourselves.
