In a sign that perhaps the channel has gone just a touch overboard with the GoT Party elections, HBO has commissioned a song to honor Jon Snow’s victory. Look, the GoT Party elections were fun, don’t get me wrong. They brought us some spoilery discussions and speculation, especially when it was revealed that Littlefinger had chosen rival candidate Jon Snow’s half sister, and trueborn Stark, Sansa as his running mate. The political commercials were hilarious, especially for those of us stuck in US battleground states this election, who cannot watch any sort of escapist TV without Trump’s face on at every commercial break.
But the elections are over, and if there’s anything in the world we want more when elections are over is for them to *go away for a while.*
Sadly, in more proof that art imitates the sad reality of the United States election cycle, HBO has taken the route that just because the election is over does not mean the subject is dropped and we can go back to having our Thanksgiving dinners we filled with passive aggressive arguments about food and sportsball like they used to be. Instead they’ve gone the next step and…commissioned a song to celebrate Jon Snow’s victory. Way to rub it in the face of those Dany voters HBO.
From the press release:
In honor of Snow’s victory, one of Westeros’s hottest fictional bands, Valyrian Steel, recorded a new campaign song, called “Ode to Snow,” which in reality was co-written and recorded by Kyle Gass, John Konesky and John Spiker of the band Tenacious D. You can check out the song, which is debuting today, at this link: https://soundcloud.com/h
bovalyriansteel/valyrian-steel -ode-to-snow-a-campaign-trail- song With 35% of the vote, Snow and Mormont edged out rivals Daenerys Targaryen and Tyrion Lannister (32%), Petyr Baelish and Sansa Stark (31%) and Cersei Lannister and Qyburn, who despite an aggressive 11th hour attack ad that eviscerated their opponents, ended up with only 2% of the vote.
Please let your leaders know that they should pledge their allegiance to Jon Snow as the official leader of the GoT Party this election season – and that they can download Game of Thrones: The Complete Sixth Season to catch up on all of the latest developments in the world of Westeros. #song
Do you want to hear the song? Trust me, it’s… well, *rather* familiar.
At least it’s somewhat period appropriate? Consider it something you can use as background music at *your* next GoT Party, which, if all goes well, will be celebrating the return of Season 7 in July of 2017, and not any elections at all.
