Using 260 individual mods, Skyrim users recreate the full original Game of Thrones trailer from the very first season. Even more impressively they did it using the original Skyrim game, not the spiffy new re-released special edition that came out recently.
Faces and outfits were used from over 260 different mods for the game that have come out over the years. Yeah it’s a little blocky, but considering the limitations of the original game, it’s very well done.
From the YouTube description:
I have used Skyrim to recreate Game of Thrones at last. I am starting with the season 1 trailer but I will most likely do every Game of Thrones trailer as time goes on. This video features over 260 Skyrim mods so that every Game of Thrones asset from the Season 1 trailer looks just right.
For comparison’s sake, here is the original trailer from 2011. A more innocent time for all involved no?
This is not the first time that Skyrim users have taken to recreating parts of Game of Thrones using the game. A couple of years back someone made the opening credits scene using Skyrim as well.
Of course, that’s slightly easier (slightly!) mostly because it doesn’t have people. Making believable people in video games is still a frontier that hasn’t been conquered–as you can see from the topmost video, the cartoony look just becomes more refined, but not actually realistic.
Personally my favorite recreation of anything in Game of Thrones is the Minecraft ones. Partly because the block building game lends itself so well to the opening sequence, and partly because I just think Minecraft is cool.
Of course, if they attempted to make the Season 1 trailer out of Minecraft, it probably wouldn’t work so well. But I think some should just consider that a challenge, don’t you?
