As the birthday of Sophie Turner approaches on February 21st, one fan decided to honor the actress who has brought Sansa Stark to life on Game of Thrones for the past six seasons. But rather than buy Turner some sort of extravagant present in celebration of her 21st birthday, Thrones fan Victoria Finley decided upon a gofundme campaign benefiting one of Turner’s favorite charities, the International Rescue Committee (IRC). The IRC is a humanitarian relief organization dedicated to helping refugees worldwide. Bravo Ms. Finley.

Turner, along with many of the principal cast of Game of Thrones, including Lena Headey (Cersei Lannister) and Maisie Williams (Arya Stark), have long supported the efforts of the IRC. Using the hashtag #realmtotherescue, HBO and the cast even offered fans the chance to win a trip to the season 6 premiere in return for donations. (Headey in particular has been very vocal on the plight of Syrian refugees fleeing the ongoing conflict in their home country.) We have no inside knowledge, but something tells us Turner would be happy for fans to donate to the IRC in her name.

As Finley notes on the campaign page, donations are open past Turner’s birthday, until March 5th, and all funds collected will be donated to the IRC “in both Sophie’s and her fans names.” One thousand dollars is the initial goal of the fund, but hopefully the campaign will succeed in raising much more for such a worthy cause. And if you were wondering what you were going to get Turner for her birthday, as most of us were, here’s an easy idea for you. Better than a gift card. Either way, we wish Sophie Turner a very happy name day.
