Infographic explores potential character reunions in Game of Thrones season 7

As we gear up for the seventh and penultimate season of Game of Thrones, we spend our days speculating on events to come. The sprawling cast of characters has been reduced to three core factions: Targaryen, Stark and Lannister, and it seems inevitable that their members will start to collide. “It’s still the same running theme of characters that haven’t crossed each other’s paths before will do again,” Alfie Allen (Theon) said of the season in a recent interview, “and they’re gonna take it even further this time.”

While there are plenty of potential new relationships to look forward to — Cersei and Dany, Tormund and Jaime, Hot Pie and anyone — there’s also the potential for a number of reunions.

Redditor TabascoFart — two words that should never go together on a first date — has put together a handy infographic covering the relationships between the members of Team Daenerys and Team Jon (otherwise known as Team Unburnt and Team Undead), and the possible outcomes of some of these characters meeting again. You can take a look at the whole thing here. Let’s examine some of the possible meetings that lie in store.

A possible Jon/Jorah meeting jumps out at me straight away, as it’s something I’ve been looking forward to for years. Putting Jorah’s feelings for Daenerys aside, a meeting between these two could go in any number of directions. It was Jon Snow’s assumed father, Ned Stark, who exiled Jorah for selling poachers into slavery, but Jon is also the man who avenged Jorah’s father when he was killed by his men, so Jorah is bound to have conflicted feelings about Jon. As for Jon, when he learns why Ned Stark exiled the disgraced Mormont, will he more lenient than his uncle was?

Technically, Sansa and Tyrion got married shortly before the Lannisters killed her family, not after, but the point is taken.

Sansa and Tyrion’s marriage was an excellent side-plot in season 3, and it firmly established Tyrion (in my mind, at least) as one of the most decent characters on the show. Unlike every other person in King’s Landing, Tyrion treated Sansa with respect and admired a strength in her that many others overlooked. (“Lady Stark, you may survive us yet.”) By the time Sansa escaped King’s Landing, we saw that she had some trust in Tyrion, as she refused to believe he’d killed his nephew. Tyrion’s positive relationship with Sansa would make him an ideal man to broker an alliance between the Starks and the Targaryens, and it would be great to see these two form a strong and enduring friendship.

When Loras was taken into custody by the High Sparrow, Olenna and Petyr met in secret and Olenna threatened to tell the world about their conspiracy to murder Joffrey, should her family fall. Well, the Tyrells haven’t completed fallen, but they have been knocked down several pegs. There’s no doubt that Olenna blames Petyr — at least in part — for Loras and Margaery’s downfall, and I would relish watching her tear strips from him with her acidic tongue.

This infographic makes no bones about its dislike of Petyr Baelish.

I can’t really see Petyr and Varys meeting again in season 7, as I suspect that Petyr will remain wherever Sansa Stark is, and I don’t imagine that Sansa will want to leave Winterfell anytime soon. I also don’t see Daenerys bringing her posse to Winterfell, at least not until the very end of the season. Personally, I’d like Petyr to meet his maker before Varys comes within 500 miles of the North, but if he doesn’t, it would be fun to see these two resume their thinly veiled enmity. Or for Varys to tell Sansa the truth of Littlefinger’s part in Ned’s arrest. Either works.

Hey, what about Podrick and Tyrion?

Who are you hoping to see reunite?
