Brace yourselves; cameos are coming. Thanks to the addition of New York Mets pitcher Noah Syndergaard in a cameo role during the seventh season of Game of Thrones, the season might go down as the most cameo filled season yet. Depending upon who you listen to, Syndergaard joins UFC star Conor McGregor, along with indie band Bastille. That’s quite the wide range of celebrities, though Game of Thrones continues to deny actual actors the chance to make cameos on the hit HBO drama.
Syndergaard, a huge Game of Thrones fan among many other fantasy and comic properties, filmed his brief appearance this past November in Spain.
They just know that I’m a fan and they invited me to do that… I couldn’t say no.
Who would? Of course, Spain generally stands in for scenes taking place in King’s Landing, as well as those involving Essos. With Daenerys and crew headed to Westeros, it seems likely that Syndergaard’s cameo will take place in King’s Landing.
Syndergaard’s cameo comes on the heels of news that Major League Baseball will be teaming up with HBO for a variety of promotional efforts this summer when season 7 debuts. Sadly for Syndergaard though, the New York Mets are not among those teams participating in the cross promotional efforts.
Syndergaard who is also a fan of Marvel comics, The Walking Dead, and Breaking Bad among others, has sewn tributes to his favorite shows into his gloves while pitching. Syndergaard, who had a win/loss record of 14-9 last season, was recently offered a new contract, that raised his salary from $503,375 to $605,550 for 2017. Syndergaard has thus far refused to sign the contract over its relatively low amount in contrast to comparable pitchers. If Syndergaard’s cameo does indeed occur in King’s Landing, perhaps Cersei might have a word of advice on how to deal with stubborn foes.
