The US election season has been long and tumultuous. After months of campaigning, Donald Trump emerged victorious over Hillary Clinton. A Song of Ice and Fire writer George R.R. Martin weighed in on the results soon after they were announced. He wasn’t thrilled.
Trump was the least qualified candidate ever nominated by a major party for the presidency. Come January, he will become the worst president in American history, and a dangerously unstable player on the world stage…Over the next four years, our problems are going to get much, much worse. Winter is coming. I told you so.
Pretty intense. Although few of the cast and crew members of Game of Thrones used language that strong, by and large they seemed to agree with him. For example, Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark), tweeting around the time when the returns were being finalized, put it simply:
This can't be happening right now.

No

Nathalie Emmanuel (Missandei) had a similar reaction.

Ditto Jacob Anderson (Grey Worm), who tweeted under the name he uses as a musician: Raleigh Ritchie.

Bryan Cogman, who’s been a writer on the show since Season 1, was busy online during election night and into the morning, but his tweet-storm is best summed up by this one:
You maniacs. You blew it up.
— Bryan Cogman (@b_cogman) November 9, 2016
Liam Cunningham (Davos Seaworth) often uses his Twitter account to talk about politics. This was no exception. Here are some of his retweets from the past couple of days:

Dear media, I really hope all the ratings were worth it

So many of the cast members were upset that Trump claimed victory. After the initial reactions came words of caution. Here’s a retweet from Carice van Houten (Melisandre):
Thanks, internet. Let's spread this far and wide. pic.twitter.com/txY2jqFSMT

And here’s Lena Headey (Cersei Lannister) with the final word:
Woke up feeling there is greater community than we know. Bigger love. Less divide between us. I will love harder and shout louder.
— lena headey (@IAMLenaHeadey) November 10, 2016
Strange happenings bring us closer, Shows us the depth and strength of our own humanity. Love and love and love and love
