Last week, we brought you news of an epic poll put together by BryndenBFish, A Song of Ice and Fire devotee and proprietor of the Wars and Politics of Ice and Fire blog. In the spirit of US presidential race, BryndenBFish asked fans questions about their favorite ASOIAF books, their favorite point-of-view characters, and many variations thereupon. And now, just in time for election day, BryndenBFish posted the results on Reddit. Let’s take a look at some of the results.
How Many Times Have you Read All of the Main Novels?
Number of Times | Raw Vote Total | Percent |
---|---|---|
0 | 57 | 1.7% |
1 | 1,439 | 42.4% |
2 | 999 | 29.4% |
3 | 469 | 13.8% |
4 | 177 | 5.2% |
5 | 57 | 1.7% |
More than 5 | 163 | 4.8% |
So most of the voters—just under 75%—have read the books either once or twice. I’ve read the books three times, which puts me in the upper 30%. That’s great news for me, or I’m a bigger nerd than I thought.
Moving on…
What Is Your Favorite Main Novel from ASOIAF?
Book | Raw Vote Total | Percent |
---|---|---|
A STORM OF SWORDS | 1,838 | 54.1% |
A DANCE WITH DRAGONS | 479 | 14.1% |
A FEAST FOR CROWS | 412 | 12.1% |
A GAME OF THRONES | 325 | 9.6% |
A CLASH OF KINGS | 288 | 8.5% |
N/A | 54 | 1.6% |
Unsurprisingly, A Storm of Swords is a reader favorite. Remember: the third book in the series was adapted into the third and fourth seasons of Game of Thrones, and contains such awesome events as the Red Wedding, the Purple Wedding, Tyrion’s trial, the Battle of Castle Black, and much more.
Each chapter of the Song of Ice and Fire novels are told through the eyes of our favorite characters, one character per chapter. So whose eyes did everyone enjoy seeing the lands of Westeros and Essos through the most?
Who Is Your Overall Favorite Main POV From ASOIAF?
POV | Raw Vote Total | Percent |
---|---|---|
Tyrion Lannister | 900 | 26.4% |
Jon Snow | 666 | 19.6% |
Jaime Lannister | 497 | 14.6% |
Arya Stark | 308 | 9% |
Eddard Stark | 195 | 5.7% |
Davos Seaworth | 182 | 5.3% |
Daenerys Targaryen | 110 | 3.2% |
Theon Greyjoy | 108 | 3.2% |
Sansa Stark | 91 | 2.7% |
Bran Stark | 91 | 2.7% |
Cersei Lannister | 70 | 2.1% |
Catelyn Stark | 42 | 1.2% |
Victarion Greyjoy | 27 | 0.8% |
Brienne of Tarth | 22 | 0.6% |
Barristan Selmy | 14 | 0.4% |
Jon Connington | 13 | 0.4% |
Melisandre of Asshai | 11 | 0.3% |
Samwell Tarly | 9 | 0.3% |
Asha Greyjoy | 9 | 0.2% |
Arys Oakheart | 9 | 0.2% |
Aeron Greyjoy | 8 | 0.2% |
Quentyn Martell | 6 | 0.2% |
Arianne Martell | 6 | 0.2% |
Areo Hotah | 2 | 0.1% |
It’s not a huge shock that the witty Tyrion took top honors here. I was surprised that Daenerys only received 3.2% of the vote, though. She’s one of the main characters! That might have something to do with her boring Meereen chapters.
Before we post the full results, let’s zero in on on a question related to the TV show.
What Is Your Favorite Season of Game of Thrones?
POV | Raw Vote Total | Percent |
---|---|---|
Season 6 | 975 | 28.7% |
Season 1 | 857 | 25.3% |
Season 4 | 713 | 21% |
Season 3 | 566 | 16.7% |
Season 2 | 198 | 5.8% |
Season 5 | 84 | 2.5% |
This vote was close, but Season 6 claimed the top prize. Recency bias may be at work here, but I won’t argue with the results too much. (Season 4 is my personal favorite.)
