In the excitement of yesterday’s spoilers dropping like rain from the sky, the announcement by the Castillo de Almodóvar del Río on Game of Thrones Season 7 filming was overlooked. As we’ve reported before, the castle, which is located in the Córdoba area of Seville is expected to stand in for something for Season 7, though exactly what has not been confirmed. (Areas in Seville were last used as backdrops to film Dorne in Season 5, the Bridge of Córdoba has stood in for Volantis for the last two seasons).
According to ABCSeville, the Europa Press has been informed that the castle will be closed to the public for filming starting November 4th and running for two weeks through November 16th.
Roughly Translated:
The Europa Press sources have confirmed that Castillo Almodovar has received the request of that producer to “block those dates” for the intended shooting. They have not yet clarified which specific days filming will happen, or if it will occur on the towers, the walls, the courtyard or the rooms of the fortress, one of the main attractions of Almodóvar.
Some of this undoubtedly will be for set up, as they also confirm that extra selection will be on November 8th. About 4,000 hopefuls turned out last month to audition. Of that number, 1500 are expected to be selected for what we can only assume is a large army scene, considering that the casting call specifically asked for those with military experience, as well as insisting they were not casting women or children.
